Noise of Art – Covid-19 Update

Following government advice Noise of Art is currently suspending all activity while we observe social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
While halting activity, we look forward to collaborating again with the many partners we have worked with over the last 15 years. These include the National Portrait Gallery, The Social, Chateau Perché Festival, First Light Festival, The Tate, BFI, The Cross Club Prague, Move Association, Southbank Centre/ Royal Festival Hall, Village Underground, Apple Records/ The Beatles, MaMA Festival (Paris), National Maritime Museum, Latitude, The Roundhouse, French Music Export, Woodbridge Festival of Art and Music, to mention a few.
We wish them, all of you reading this and our colleagues in other European countries and elsewhere, many of whom had gone into lockdown before us, well during this unprecedented period.
While all the events we had lined-up this year are suspended, we hope that many of them will still happen at a later date. This includes plans for events in the UK, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Italy.
And while events such as First Light Festival have been suspended for 2020, we hope we may be able to involve these partners in our other projects 
later in the year.
Some of our European dates, which were scheduled to begin in April, are potentially still going ahead, although it is unlikely they will take place soon.
Noise of Art’s programming role in the Woodbridge Festival will also still go ahead, although we’re expecting a delay to the original date – which was the Weekend of 11 July.
DJ Ben Osborne played the National Portrait Gallery. This has now also become the last DJ date at the gallery until it re-opens in 2022, after a major refurbishment. It marks a ten year stint since Noise of Art held our first whole building event at the NPG in 2010. And 10 years since we first suggested regular DJ slots to the gallery’s then music team. We are proud DJ events have run weekly ever since and we hope they will return to the gallery when it re-opens.
Here are some of the dates we hope to reschedule as soon as possible: 16 March, 20 April, 18 May at The Social, London, MSF including Wide Days (Scotland) launch event, 20 March, 10 April, 24 April, 1 May, 15 May, 22 May Freudian Lips, London, 30 March First Light Festival launch party, Lowestoft, 5 April,7 June, 5 July 1st Sundays, Hacheston, Suffolk, 8 May Turk’s Head Festival, 19 June Little Chill Festival (may still be on – keep checking), 20 June First Light Festival, 27 June Glastonbury Festival, 11 July Woodbridge Festival of Art and Music, plus dates in Prague in April, May and June and other European dates later this summer.

Concrete Bar, Haywood Gallery, Friday 22 February
Slipped Disco, slides back to the Southbank Centre with an open ended music policy of all things dancefloor. Time Out had this to say about January’s event there: “Long-running night Slipped Disco and its founder Ben Osborne bounce back over to riverside venue Concrete at Southbank Centre for a new monthly residency of obscenely fun electronic oddness. This pleases us very much indeed, primarily because of the anything-goes music policy that sees anything from classic techno, punk-funk, galactic house, deep down and dirty disco and other dancefloor dynamite do the rounds. Welcome back, Slipped Disco, and let the fun and weirdness begin again.”

Parisian re-edit don The Reflex spins at Re:Play on Friday 28 February at Shoredicth hot nightspot, the Loft at the Bedroom Bar, for what is promising to be a big night.
Unwind into your weekend at the Late Shift Bar as DJ Ben Osborne plays a set inspired by the Man Ray Portraits exhibition in this iconic london gallery.
National Portrait Gallery This Thursday

Noise of Art founder and Re:Play/ Slipped Disco resident, DJ Ben Osborne, returns to the National Portrait Gallery for a weekend warm up. He’ll be playing music against a back drop of portraits inspired by the Queen: Art & Image exhibition; from Cecil Beaton to Pietro Annigoni, Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz, Lucian Freud, Thomas Struth and Gerhard Richter. There’ll be some swerve balls, so expect to hear anything from royalty referencing gospel to queens of soul, kings of disco, first ladies of funk and at least one mash up of a Queen song.

Starting at the National Portrait Gallery with an AV feast from 6pm -10pm and moving onto Momo for a club knees-up until 4am.
The night features everything from house to opera, beatboxing to ragas and romantic to robotic.
Music takes over the entire National Portrait Gallery as leading creative producers from PRS for Music’s New Music Plus Award create audio-visual works inspired by and reflecting the building and its portraits.
DJs Ashley Beedle, Ben Osborne and Lady Hot Tangerine, Rupert The Brewer and friends spin dance music of all forms in the Main Hall.
Composer Phillip Neil Martin presents an exploration of voice in the Regency galleries.
Beatboxer Jason Singh creates a sonic response to The Anti-Slavery Convention painting with vocalists Bex Mather and Ranjana Ghatak and poet Avaes Mohammed
Maija Handover installs The Vanishing Walls work in the Tudor galleries using found sounds from historic houses
Pianists Will Dutta and Stuart Davies play Chopin and Liszt in the 17th Century galleries
Outside-in installation created by Ben Osborne, Your Mum and Strap-On – projects the exterior of the Gallery inside and images from inside out.
Inspired by nearby China Town, Overlap explore imagery and music with shifting portraits of Chinese silent movie star Anna Mae Wong
Mark Scott Wood marches his silent political protest past portraits of statesmen in the Victorian galleries.
The Gallery will close at 10pm when the party continues until 4am with Ashley Beedle and Ben Osborne and Lady Hot Tangerine playing around the corner at Momo, Hedden Street, W1.
